Medical cavitation

It is a physical phenomenon exploited in the medical and aesthetic fields. Cavitation is a non-surgical technique widely used both in medicine for lithotripsy (treatment of kidney stones) and in aesthetic medicine to eliminate localized fat and blemishes such as cellulite and skin or in beauty centers (only in the latter case we speak of aesthetic cavitation).

Medical cavitation and aesthetic cavitation: how they change

The medical cavitation is a non-surgical treatment, which has as its objective to reduce the thickness of the accumulated fat, especially in the waist and in areas in which it is localized cellulite. The treatment is non-invasive and represents an alternative to liposuction. The cavitation is mainly used in its application aesthetics. The results are encouraging, although one should be careful of any side effects and contraindications. The technique is based on low-frequency ultrasound, which is used for body remodeling. The ultrasonic serve to eliminate the fat cells. The results can also be definitive if the medical indications are respected if a correct diet and an active lifestyle are followed.

Medical cavitation is a technique that is not based on surgery and which serves to reduce body fat, acting above all against the skin. Special machines are used on the body to intervene. These are innovative devices that allow the production of low-frequency ultrasound. The latter manages to break up the cells that form the localized fat gradually. The medical cavitation must be carried out in the presence of a doctor, while the aesthetic is performed in beauty salons. The difference is above all in the final yield, aesthetic cavitation, in fact, uses high-frequency ultrasounds which remain more localized, not completely reaching the underlying fatty tissue, but only toning the skin; medical cavitation, on the other hand, uses low-frequency ultrasounds that penetrate deep into the tissues, acting more effectively on the localized adiposities, giving better results, since it not only makes the skin more toned on the surface but improves the tissue completely. The areas where it is performed are thighs, hips, abdomen, and buttocks.

How medical cavitation works

Through ultrasound, micro-bubbles of vapor are generated inside the fluid, which will implode for changes in temperature and pressure inside the body. The micro-bubbles imploded will cause the breakdown of the cell membranes of the adipocytes, the cells containing the fat, which will release the spilled fats, which will then be eliminated from the body physiologically by the liver and kidneys.

Based on how the ultrasound will be conveyed on the area to be treated, we will talk about:

- Convergent cavitation, if ultrasound will act in a small area.

- Divergent cavitation if the ultrasounds are directed over an area is more extensive.

How to prepare for cavitation: possible contraindications

Given that medical cavitation is not a device for weight loss but is used to reshape the figure when you are unable to do it with sports and diet, a first visit will be made with the specialist, who will evaluate the most suitable treatment and the areas to be treated; if the doctor deems the treatment appropriate, he will prescribe clinical tests to rule out contraindications.

In fact, this technique is not recommended for patients who are diabetic and suffering from liver pathologies, heart disease or vascular diseases, wearers of metal implants or pacemakers, or pregnant, breastfeeding women, or if they use the spiral as a contraceptive method.

After carrying out the tests and checking that there is no clinical problem, in the immediately preceding days, the patient is advised to perform good hydration. It allows a better result of the treatment, filling the treated areas with interstitial fluids, which will guarantee better formation of microbubbles. If the patient is not properly hydrated, the professional may consider it appropriate to inject a physiological solution into the patient's subcutaneous tissue a few minutes before the start of the procedure.

During cavitation

It is performed by the professional with a handpiece that has passed over the areas of the body to be treated as if the patient was performing a kind of massage. It is not a painful procedure, but you can perceive a sensation of heat and tingling that could be annoying, but on the whole bearable, so much so as to perform cavitation in most cases without anesthesia. It is important that the patient communicates the feelings of discomfort to the doctor so that he can understand when to insist and when to change the area, thus reducing the risk of side effects.

After medical cavitation: results

It is not an invasive treatment. Therefore the patient can immediately resume normal activities, having the foresight to drink a lot of water, follow a balanced diet, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. After the session, slight edema may occur in the treated area, feelings of heat or red skin, but they disappear within a short time.

It is necessary to repeat the sessions five to ten times to have a visible and lasting result, but already after the first session, the silhouette will be more defined, improving gradually after each subsequent session.

Medical cavitation also benefits for cellulite

The remodeling of the silhouette with this technique allows obtaining benefits also for cellulite, without resorting to more invasive surgical treatments, since immediately also improves the appearance of the orange peel skin, better oxygenation of the tissues, and subsequent reactivation of circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Advantages of cavitation

Since medical cavitation is not a violent treatment, the patient, once finished, can immediately resume his daily activities. Despite this, he will have to take care to drink a lot of water and to carry out a well-balanced diet in order not to invalidate the treatment.

The results are not visible from a single session, but it will be necessary to carry out from 5 to 10 sessionsMedical cavitation, although it must be said that the advantages vary greatly depending on the area treated the extent and the response of the patient.
